The information nothing contained is intended to be instructional for medical diagnosis or treatment. The information contained is compiled from a variety of sources. It's so important, it's so instinctive and intuitive. You cannot just take a soundbite of something that I said or say or what someone else says. You want to make sure that you get with your PCP, your primary care doctor, or, better yet, make an appointment with me at Littleton Concierge Medicine so I can go over your story and make accurate diagnosis and treatment. It's so important. So, look, I'm excited about today's topic.
Speaker 1:Let's dig into it. We're talking about self-care. It's something that we all need to make room for in our schedule, in our lives, so that we can be at our optimal best. On this podcast, we talk about how you can have optimized healthy living, and part of that, along with good nutrition and exercise, is taking time to have self-care so important. It's something that I do weekly and it's something that you should do as well. I'm pretty excited about this. I've got my Instagram live friends on with right now as we're doing this behind the scenes. Look as we're. We're doing our uh podcast in the studio. Uh, pretty excited for 2025 and some of the things that are getting ready to um to come up. I'm going to start uh, introducing you some of uh, my um you know colleagues around the world on this podcast as we get into 2025. Um, and also uh, friends and and and people of interest, I think will also enrich your lives on this podcast as well in 2025, that's going to be starting in 2025. And also around the corner is my new wellness center and clinic getting ready to open up. Pretty excited about that and, um, you know, also that's pretty exciting, as always. You know, stay tuned to my whereabouts. Um on TV, um, recently was on Fox 35 talking about fluoride in the water. Is it good or is it bad? Um, you have to look in, uh, look into that and um, and find that, um, that video that I recently just did so you can be educated on that. I was a great time, pretty excited. I love my friends over there at Fox 35. So let's get into it.
Speaker 1:Self-care you know, when I think about self-care, the number one point and I've got five points for you, plus a bonus point that I'm going to give today Number one is meditate on your day. You know, when we talk about self-care, it's not just taking an isolated day to do self-care, because you know that's part of it. You want to do that too, but part of self-care is just meditating through your day when you get ready for the week. You want to think through it. You want to think three steps ahead. You want to anticipate and think through what your day, your week, your month is going to be like when you do this. This helps break up the chaos of your world. You don't want chaos in your world. You want to plan ahead. You want to think through your day. You want to be prepared. You want to be on time. You want to be ready. Ant want to be on time. You want to be ready. Anticipate who you're going to interact with.
Speaker 1:Anticipate the things that you need to have prepped, whether that's your diet or food prep, or maybe it's just, you know, planning for that big talk that you've got to get later in the week or that client you've got to meet with. You've got to think through that. You want to think through that and that's part of self-care. You don't want to just take things as it comes. You want to have a plan. You want to execute. You know I love watching the NFL, I love watching football and you know good teams that win a lot. They have a plan and they try to anticipate what the opponent's going to do, but they also try to execute their plan and control the game and control the tempo, and you want to do that in your week and in your life. When you do that. That's part of taking care of yourself. That's part of not letting the chaos in. How are you going to exercise throughout the week? What are you going to say for that meeting that you have to prepare for? How does your plans fit into what your family life is like for the week? You have to think through your day. You have to think through your week. Like I said, you have to think through your month. When you do that, when you meditate on what your schedule looks like, you're taking care of yourself, and that goes a long way.
Speaker 1:Point number two you want to schedule in leisure time. Everyone has to have leisure time. You have to have time to play, whatever that means to you. For some it's shopping, for some it's dining, for some it's going to the movies, watching a sporting event, in my case, football. I love the Detroit Lions. I love watching the Lions. That's part of my leisure. It's a break. It's a break from what I do, and when I do that, I'm separating myself from my work, from my profession for a second and I'm just enjoying entertainment, in this case, watching the Lions play. And you know it's part of my self-care, it's part of how I play.
Speaker 1:Another thing that I like to do is take advantage of the high and low tides in your week and I've said this before on other podcasts. I always like to take advantage of my schedule when I know that I'm least called upon and I have certain days, certain times throughout the week where I can relax. You know, as an on-call doctor, as a private doctor, you know I know the flow of my week and I know when I need to take advantage of those low time periods to get rest, to go and play, to do self-care. And you want to be able to be aware of those low time periods, but also you want to be aware of those high time periods so that you're ready to go, you're alert, very responsive and there for your clientele in case of your schedule. And when you do that, it helps you to be on top of things and to be focused and not to be frustrated or not to feel like you're overwhelmed and not to feel like you never have time for yourself. Understand your flow, understand your week, understand your schedule, so schedule and leisure time and understand when is the best time to do that. Sometimes that means just sitting down and taking out a calendar and planning your week out and doing that in the midst of how you know your schedule works for you Something to think about. That's food for thought.
Speaker 1:Point number three take a break from the digital. It's so important that you get away from TV, your phone, the internet so that you can take a break or unplug yourself from those digital activities so you can go get some fresh air, go for a walk, relax, take a nap if you need to, but unplug yourself from the digital world so that you can de-stress. You have to have regular times in the week where you do that. You have to have time where you prep yourself for what's next or what's to come. So take a digital break. Point number four and I like this, and this is something that my wife and I do is go to the spa. Yeah, we quarterly, you know, we'll travel and we'll go to the spa and we'll get a massage and we'll enjoy the amenities at the spa that we're at.
Speaker 1:And this is we use it kind of as as a celebration for accomplishing our 90 day goals. When we do that, we're using that time to relax, to think through what's the next quarter look like, what are our goals for the next 90 days, and really just to be together and to relax, and it's something that actually motivates us, because when we do this quarterly, we're pushing through those 90 days knowing that we're going to take a break at the end of it, and it allows, it gives us permission to go hard, to work hard, to push. When we feel like man, we're burning the midnight oil or we're working on goals to achieve a certain goal, we feel good that we know at the end of the 90 days, there's light at the end of the tunnel, we're gonna take a break, we're gonna go to a massage and I think we're gonna go do a massage or we're gonna go to the spa, and that's something that we always look forward to. And you can have these breaks, whether you do it quarterly or biannually or every week. Set aside the time to do something like that and I think it can help, you know, improve your life and to extend your longevity. I think that's something that we all should do from time to time.
Speaker 1:Point number five take a vacation. Now, that seems intuitive, but a lot of times people don't plan to take a vacation. A lot of times people don't give themselves permission to take a break and go and travel. You have to get away, because getting away inspires you, it brings in new creativity and it takes you out of your daily environment, you know um away from people so that you can go and relax, educate yourself, see new things, do things that excite you, have fun when you play hard like that. Now you're, you can work hard when it's time to work, when it's time to grind, and I think that's so important and it's a part of self-care. It makes an entire difference. And when you go on vacation, take time to enjoy the moment, to enjoy the place that you're at so important, to enjoy the place that you're at so important. Dr Stacia Pierce, my business coach, she coaches me to write down 101 goals every year and I always write down my vacation goals on that list that I make and, like I said, it motivates me throughout the year, it keeps me focused and it makes a huge difference. Point number six and this is my bonus point I told you I'd give you five points, but I have a bonus point and that is renew your mind.
Speaker 1:As a Christian, I personally take time to study the Bible and to deal with areas that I need to strengthen in my life Bible and to deal with areas that I need to strengthen in my life and I'll take my favorite scripture in the Bible and I'll just soak on it until I feel strengthened and ready to take tackle whatever is ahead of me. And this is so important because it's part of self-care, it's part of taking care of my soul, it's part of taking care of my life. Every other Sunday I have Mentorship Sunday with my daughter after church and that's where her and I we get together and we talk about what's important in her life. And I'm mentoring her. She's 11. I'm prepping her for life. And today we had I'll give you an example Today we had Ment'll give you an example today.
Speaker 1:We had mentorship Sunday after church and what we discussed was taking the Bible, taking your favorite scripture, the Word of God, and meditating on it to renew your mind, to strengthen yourself, to prep yourself. And today I want to share this with you. We, we, we talked about Isaiah 41, 10, which um which says and I'm reading from the good news translation it says do not be afraid, I am with you, I am your God, let nothing terrify you, I will make you strong and help you. I will protect you and save you. And I just sat down with my daughter and I said you and save you. And I just sat down with my daughter and I said what does that mean to you? And we discussed it. And the reason I brought that up is because I want her to activate that scripture in her life so she can stand against fear, anxiety, depression, worry or whatever she faces.
Speaker 1:I was dealing with her soul and mine as well, as we were both meditating on the word of God and that's self-care. We're renewing our mind on the word of God as Christians. That's what my daughter and I do, that's what my wife does, that's what we do as a family. Jesus is our risen Lord and Savior and you know that's how we do self-care on our soul. So you take that together with the other points that I talked about meditating on your day, scheduling in leisure time, and fine-tune yourself so that you can hit it during the week, so that you can attack the week like never before you can get your goals done the week like never before you can get your goals done. You take that along with good exercise, good nutrition, and you're at a great place.
Speaker 1:I always talk about in my practice setting goals that motivate you to achieve, that cause you to want to live long, because if you live long, you're going to be able to do the things that mean most to you, and when you do those things, you have to, you got to be healthy, you got to have energy. You want to do things that help you to accomplish your goals. What I mean by that is exercise, good diet, nutrition and good self-care, which is what we're talking about today. When you incorporate this in your life some of these principles that I've mentioned and you take care of your body, take care of your soul, take care of your nutrition, you'll live a more healthy and energized life.
Speaker 1:Before I let you go, I want to just tell you that in my book, wellspring, energize Again, this book talks about that, and this book is something that you can get at my website at jasonndcom. I think it's a life changer, so make sure you pick that book up. I have enjoyed you guys today. I want you to go visit my handles Instagram, facebook, linkedin, youtube check these things out.
